Dish Network wins stay of contempt order in TiVo case - Portland Business Journal:

“We are pleased that the Federal Appeals Courtf in Washington temporarily stayed thedistrict court’e order in the Tivo said Dish Network in a written statement. “Disj Network customers can continue usingttheir DVRs. We believe that we have strongy groundsfor appeal.” A jury in an east Texax U.S. District Court found in 2006 that DVR softwares in DishNetwork set-top boxes violatedx patents of Alviso, Calif.-based TiVo covering DVR playbacj features, like the ability to pause and rewind live programming whiles the DVR continues to record.
Dish Network reprogrammesd millions of its DVRs after the verdict with a it said removed any infringing But TiVo claimedDish Network’a software “workaround” continued the old patent violatiom and succeeded Tuesday in winning the contempt verdict from the Texas court. The contempt order upped the previous financial penalty to Dish Networmkby $103 million. The contempt order listeds total damages and interest award due to TiVoat $192.7u million. That total includes $105 million Dish Networko alreadyhas paid. It has another $27 milliojn in escrow for according toSecurities & Exchange Commission filings.
