Rep. Perlmutter to work on measures to help car dealers - Denver Business Journal:

Both companies have filed for Chapte 11bankruptcy protection, and both have notifie d dealers in Colorado -- at leasft 12 for Chrysler; at least 13 for GM -- that they will lose thei franchises to sell new cars. "As we work our way througb the aftermath of both the Chrysler andGM bankruptcies, I am committed to trying to cushion the blow to the parties caught in the aftermatuh of the bankruptcy filings, and I am in the processs of working on measures to help dealerships who are losingh franchises as part of the bankruptcy agreements transition and develop news business models," Perlmutter, said in a statement late Monday.
Perlmuttef is a member of the Housew FinancialServices Committee. "My thoughts are with thesre businesses, their employees and the families as they work througjh thesedifficult times," Perlmutter said. "I will continu to follow this situation and work with the Housd Financial Services Committee to take appropriate action wheree necessary to help stabilize our auto industry because it is essentiall to ournational security, protecting American jobs and maintaining the manufacturingf industry in this country to keep our auto industry running.
" Tim Jackson, president of the Coloradk Automobile Dealers, that he and some Colorado car dealers plan to travel to Washington soon to try to convince lawmakersx to come to the dealers' aid througj legislation. Perlmutter said he concurs with the decision of both guided by the Obama to seek Chapter 11 protectiob whilethey re-organize. "I believe Chapter 11 is only way for GM to restructurde and deal with their financial situationb in a complete fashion to come up with an organizatiom that can competeand succeed," Perlmutter said.
